What is PittStart?

Welcome to the University of Pittsburgh, Class of 2011!

Congratulations on your admission. Your next big step is to begin planning to join us on campus for your PittStart session, and this website is designed to tell you all about what to expect when you get here. At your PittStart session, you will begin the transition to your academic career, plus have the chance to learn a bit more about the university, the campus and all that we have to offer.

During the PittStart session, you will complete placement exams, meet your academic advisor and register for your fall classes. PittStart is not all work though! We will keep you busy with plenty of fun social and informational events. You also will get to know the Freshman Peer Counselors (FPCs), current Pitt students who will be valuable friends and mentors during your entire enrollment process.

FPCs

FPCs are present to answer your questions, show you the ins and outs of being a Pitt student and assist with general academic matters. They are also here to entertain you! From volleyball to karaoke, the FPCs will have plenty of activities available after your work is done to help you learn your way around campus, and, maybe even more importantly, to meet your classmates.

Your Role

Not only can this website help you to learn your way around campus, it is your connection to having a successful and enjoyable PittStart session. It is important that you familiarize yourself with the following areas of the PittStart website before you arrive on campus. At the upper-left hand portion of all of the student screens you will the see the following buttons. It is imperative that you visit, and familiarize yourself with each of these areas.

• Register- This link will enable you to register for your PittStart session, and change your PittStart session if necessary.


• Accommodations- If you need accommodations during your PittStart session, this is the page to visit. At this link, students can secure their PittStart accommodations online and gain more information about their stay.


• Placement Exam Information- On Day One of your PittStart session, you will have the opportunity to take any required and/or optional placement exams. It is important that you read and understand all of the placement exam information so that you are aware of testing guidelines.


• Arrival- Although you will receive an official confirmation in the mail, this link will give you up-to-date information including arrival agendas.


• Frequently Asked Questions- Do you have a lingering question, even after carefully reading through the rest of the PittStart website? You may find your answers here!
