Directions and Parking

 PittStart

Getting to Campus

Please note that road construction will be occurring in Oakland and areas surrounding campus in the spring, summer and fall of 2008. We advise all students and families to plan ahead and allow for extra time in traveling to and from campus. You may compare directions to campus with up-to-date road closures and restrictions by reviewing the following resources:

Getting to the Pitt Campus from Greater Pittsburgh International Airport

If you and/or your family are traveling by air and arriving into the Greater Pittsburgh International Airport, and you don't want to rent a car, the most economical way to get to the University of Pittsburgh Campus is on the 28X Airport Flyer that is operated by the Port Authority of Allegheny County. Visit the Port Authority of Allegheny County's website (http://www.portauthority.org/paac/) for schedules and route information or call customer service at (412) 442-2000. The current one-way fare from the airport to the Pitt Campus is $2.60. If you are attending alone, you can take the airport flyer to campus for $2.60 and ride it back to the airport for free by showing the driver your University ID card obtained during PittStart.

Parking

Please refer to the campus map which identifies the recommended parking lot (Soldiers and Sailors), housing check-in point (Panther Central) and the PittStart check-in point (Alumni Hall). You will receive directions and information regarding parking in your PittStart confirmation packet. We encourage parking in the Soldiers and Sailors parking lot, located on the corner of Bigelow Boulevard and Fifth Avenue. If you choose not to use garage parking please be advised that parking on the streets in the Oakland community is restricted to vehicles with a residential street permit. Metered spaces are also enforced during certain periods of the day. Please refer to the parking meters and posted signs for this information. Please note that the university does not validate parking.

Special Events in the Oakland Area

Pittsburgh International Children's Festival: May 14-19, 2008
The May 14-15, May 15-16 and May 19-20 PittStart sessions may be impacted by the Pittsburgh International Children's Festival. The festival will utilize Oakland venues like Stephen Foster, Bellefield Hall, Frick Fine Arts, the Cathedral lawn, Carnegie Music Hall and Schenley Plaza. The festival will close Bigelow Boulevard between Forbes Avenue and Fifth Avenue and Schenley Drive in front of the Carnegie Library. It is anticipated that curb parking will be extremely minimal throughout campus as well. Please factor in the impact that the Children's Festival may have on your PittStart session.
