Q: Which placement exams do I need to take?
A: Every academic school has different requirements for placement exams. In order to determine
which required and/or optional exams apply to you, please review the "Academic Advising and Placement Exams" section of this
website.
Q: When do I register for classes? When do I meet my academic advisor?
A: You will meet with your academic advisor to discuss your academic interests and goals
during your individual registration appointment. Individual academic advising and registration appointments
for students are assigned by each academic advising center. Please read carefully through the "Academic
Advising and Placement Exams" section of the website for your specific school to learn more about the
assignment of advising appointments. Registration appointments occur
between 10:30 am and 6:30 pm on Day Two of PittStart.
All students must be available for advisement and enrollment until the end times listed below. Please
keep this in mind when making travel arrangements.
Academic and registration appointments end times:
Arts and Sciences: 6:30 pm
College of Business Administration: 5:30 pm
School of Nursing: 4:00 pm
Swanson School of Engineering 6:00 pm
Q: If I attend a PittStart session later in the summer, will I still get the classes I need?
A: All freshman students must recognize that they are the last class to register for classes
(since upperclassmen register prior to the summer) and therefore must be flexible when choosing classes.
There will always be courses available that freshmen need, but they may not be your first choice or at the
ideal time. Larger introductory class sizes, seats opening as summer progresses and other steps are taken
to help ensure relatively even class availability for freshmen.
